Previous Ottawa Brain Bee Winners

2018

Our 2018 Brain Bee winner was Melisa Eraslan from Colonel By high school Melisa represented Ottawa at the Canadian National Brain Bee on May 26th.  David Zhu, also from Colonel By came second and Sofia Cuetara of St. Joseph’s Catholic High School came 3rd.

2017

Our winner, Nathan Biniam, a grade 10 student from Colonel By high school, went on to represent Ottawa at the Canadian National Competition. Nathan also won a paid internship in a Neuroscience research lab! Congratulations Nathan!

Melisa Eraslan, also from Colonel By high school, took Second Place, followed closely by Ruth Rodriguez from Holy Trinity high school. We’d like to thank all our participants and volunteers for helping us put on a great event and we look forward to working with our students again in 2019, as we start prepping for the next Brain Bee!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2016

Congratulations to the winner of the 2016 Brain Bee: Ling Yang of Colonel By High School! Alex Moica of Colonel By High School took second place, and Ruth Rodriguez of Holy Trinity HS, placed 3rd.  Ling won a paid internship in the Abizaid lab at Carleton University and represented Ottawa at the Canadian National Championships in Hamilton, and took 3rd place (and $500 in cash) in a very tight competition!

2015

Brain Bee 2015 ParticipantsRobyn Loves of Nepean High School won the 2015 Ottawa Brain Bee and took home an iPad Mini! She went on to represent Ottawa at the Canadian National Championships! Our runner up was Valeria Koveza from All Saints High School.

2014

The winner of the 2014 Ottawa Brain Bee was Sandy Ma of Canterbury High School. Due to prior commitments, Sandy was unable to attend the National Brain Bee, so our runner up, Bethany Watts from All Saints High School, went on to represent Ottawa in the Canadian National Championship.

2013

The winner of the 2013 Ottawa Brain Bee, Hanna Zhang, went on to represent Ottawa at the 2013 National Brain Bee at McMaster University in Hamilton.

2012

Adil Abdulla took first place in the inaugural Ottawa Brain Bee in 2012. Cletus Kim and Maryam Tarar tied for second place. Ashbury College had the best overall school participation. Adil went on to take 2nd place in the 2012 Canadian National Brain Bee!
