The Brain & Mental Health Art Show is an annual event organized by SfN Ottawa to help provide a link between the scientific and the mental health communities, and to help raise awareness for mental health issues. The Art Show is a vernissage, allowing people to express their own experiences, thoughts, or research related to the brain and mental health through art.
The 2016 Brain and Mental Health Art show was a highly successful event! With roughly 60 submissions of brain and mental health related art, the Ottawa chapter of the Society for Neuroscience was able to raise over 3000$ for Ancoura, a not-for-profit society that helps subsidize housing for individuals living with mental illness. Thanks to the hard work from undergraduate and graduate volunteers, we were able to set up the big event at the Horticultural Building at Lansdowne Park that attracted about 400 guests, along with the judges that were crucial in determining this years winners. Delicious hors d’oeuvres were provided this year by the brilliant Thyme and Again! The SfN Art Committee would like to extend a thank you to everyone that submitted art, volunteered and attend the event; it could not have been possible without all of you!
The 2015 Brain & Mental Health Art Show was held on March 27th at at Orange Art Gallery (290 City Centre Avenue, Ottawa)
In total, we received over 60 submissions. Photos from the event, as well as photos of the art, are available in our galleries. Congratulations to our winners: Heather Martelock, Teresa Fortin, Marc Lapointe, Rebecca Hay, Maelyn Kaya, Kirk Davidson, and Sera Stopard.
