Brain Awareness Presentations

The following presentations are available for your class. Presentations are designed to be between 40-50 minutes, depending on class length. French presentations can be requested, but are subject to the availability of francophone volunteers.

Grades 3 & 4

The 5 Senses

Students will have the chance to ask a neuroscientist any questions that they may have about the brain and how it works! First, we will give a short 10-minute presentation to introduce the brain and how it works before answering questions from your students. Teachers are asked to work with their students in advance to prepare questions for our volunteers to answer. Presentations will be approximately 30 minutes long, depending on class engagement.

Grades 5-8

Learning & Memory

This is a presentation every student can benefit from. How does our brain make memories and where are they stored? Why is learning to ride a bike different from learning math? What can neuroscience teach us about improving our studying skills?

Sleep & Dreaming

Good sleep is vital to our health, yet we seem to know so little about it. This presentation will change that! Why do we sleep and why do we dream? What kinds of sleep disorders are there, and how do they impact those who have them? How does sleep and dreaming interact with learning and memory?

Your Brain on Tech

Our most loved presentation, Your Brain on Video Games, is back and better than ever! This presentation discusses the impact of technology on the developing brain. Information on the effect of video games, social media, and increased screen time have on the brain. Can video games be beneficial? How does social media rewire our brain? Is prolonged screen time bad for our brains?

Concussions & Brain Injury

How does exercise impact brain function? What happens when you get a concussion? What to do if you get a concussion. This presentation is perfect for sports loving students who want to know about how they can protect their brain.

Grades 9-12

Concussions & Brain Health

This presentation is designed for the student athletes in mind! Everything from concussions, to neuronutrition in this presentation. Students will learn about how exercise impacts brain function and what happens inside the brain when we get a concussion.

Stress & the Brain

What is the neurobiology of the “stress” response? How does our brain and body respond to acute and chronic stress, and how does this impact mood and the way we think? Why does meditation help us relax? This presentation includes everything that students need to know about how stress impacts their brain and healthy coping mechanisms.

Drugs & the Brain

What is the reward system, and how do different drugs affect it? How do drugs impact immediate and long term brain function? This presentation informs students about how drugs such as alcohol, cannabis, stimulants, and opioids affect the brain. This presentation also includes information on long-term risk assessment and the importance of how current decisions can impact their brain for years to come.

We also offer more advanced versions of, Learning & Memory, Sleep & Dreaming, and Your Brain on Tech, for students in grades 9-12.
