Brain Health Research Day | June 10-11th 2021

Maja Ramljak – Ottawa, ON

On June 10-11th 2021, please join Society for Neuroscience Ottawa Chapter as we partner with The University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute (uOBMRI) and the Neuroscience and Mental Health Trainee Network (NeuMe-TN) to virtually host this year’s Brain Health Research Day: From Bench to Bedside and Beyond.

Brain Health Research Day (BHRD, formerly also known as Young Researcher’s Day) is a two-day conference event jointly hosted by The University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute (uOBMRI) and the Neuroscience and Mental Health Trainee Network (NeuMe-TN) with representation from Carleton University’s Neuroscience Department and the Society for Neuroscience (SfN), Ottawa Chapter.

Hosted virtually, BHRD will include poster sessions, keynote speaker, student presentations, and networking opportunities. The goal of this event is to bring together trainees, researchers and clinicians from our neuroscience and mental health community to highlight exciting new research and foster initiatives for collaboration. This year’s conference theme is From Bench to Bedside and Beyond as we encourage our attendees to reflect on the value of translational neuroscience research.

BHRD typically welcomes approximately 200 trainees from the Ottawa and Quebec area at varying stages of their educational careers from the undergraduate to postdoctoral researcher level as well as clinicians, researchers, principal investigators, etc.

Keynote Speaker

The Dr. Antoine Hakim Lecture presents:

Catherine Jensen Peña, PhD
Assistant Professor, Princeton Neuroscience Institute
Dr. Catherine Jensen Peña

Presenting: “Early life stress primes sensitivity to future stress: from epigenetics to engrams”

Dr. Catherine Jensen Peña completed her PhD at Columbia University and continued her training as a postdoctoral fellow at the Neuroscience Department in the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS). Afterwards, she joined the Princeton Neuroscience Institute where she currently conducts her research as an Assistant Professor. Her research focuses on neurodevelopment, stress, and transcriptomic regulation. Dr. Peña is interested in understanding how early life stress affects brain development at multiple levels with the hopes of applying this knowledge towards innovative therapies relevant to individuals who have experienced childhood stress and trauma.

For more on Dr. Peña’s research, please see her website here.
