Congratulations to our Winners!

The 2019 Brain and Mental Health Art Show was a fantastic success! We had over 700 attendees, and collected over $10,000 to supportĀ Ancoura! All of the work was amazing, and we’d like to congratulate our winners in each category:

 

 

Da Vinci (elementary): Sophia Beasley – On my mind

Sophia is a 7 year old super creative young artist using many mediums including painting to explore her ideas.

 

 

 

2019 Art Show Van Gogh Category winner

 

 

Van Gogh (high school): Sarah Woronchak – Playing with your head

A visual artist interested in illustration and design. Sarah likes exploring different themes in her art, like nature, identity, self-image.

A suit of cards, upon each are different illustrations related to identity and mental health.

 

 

2019 Art Show Michaelangelo Category winner

 

Michelangelo (university/college): Myriam Hamza – Angel Complex

Myriam is an Ottawa based artist working in a variety of media, primarily coloured pencils. Her work draws inspiration from personal experience as a young person navigating through life. Topics that touch on mental health, the healthcare system, and body image can all be found in body of work. Lately, she has been working on exploring different art surfaces, such as birch panels and glass.

 

 

 

Picasso (community): Jennifer Staszewski – Spirit

Born in Montreal, Jennifer graduated rom Concordia University with a BFA. She currently lives in Ottawa where she works primarily with oil paints and ceramics. Much of her work deals with themes of femininity, identity, nature, and spirituality. Her style has evolved slightly over the past year after suffering a brain injury due to a motor vehicle accident, as the therapeutic nature of her craft has allowed her to explore these media more freely.
