Welcome to the 2025/2026 year at the Society for Neuroscience, Ottawa Chapter in Canada’s National Capital. Our wonderful group of enthusiastic volunteers earned us the SfN Chapter of the Year award for 2018, and the CAN Outreach and Advocacy Award for 2019!
Last year, we delivered a host of Brain Awareness Week presentations to Ottawa area schools, and returned to the Canadian Science and Technology Museum with our Backyard Brain kits during March break.
In March 2025, we also held our annual Ottawa Brain Bee. Congratulations to the winner, Emma Rees, who not only won the local competition but also placed first in the second phase, held in person at the 2025 Canadian Association for Neurosciences annual meeting in Toronto! We’re excited to follow her journey as she competes in the International Brain Bee from November 7-12 2025. If you’d like to get involved in the 2026 Ottawa Brain Bee, keep an eye on our page for more details.
Last, but certainly not least, we were thrilled to once again host our beloved Brain & Mental Health Art Show at the Glebe Community Centre! Thanks to your incredible support, we raised an amazing $7,229 for the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa! These funds will go directly towards supporting their mental health programming for youth.
Throughout the year, we will post information about all our events as well as other neuroscience events in the Ottawa Area, including lists of colloquia hosted by several institutions within the area. Become an SfN Member to stay in the loop. To contact the SfN Ottawa Chapter, please send an email to the appropriate coordinator.
